Designed exclusively for Australia, the 48X is powered by the 450 525 hp (up to 1,850 ft-lb) Detroit DD13 Gen 5 or 500 600 hp (up to 2,050 ft-lb) DD16 engine. Featuring a set forward front axle, a bumper to back of cab (BBC) measurement of 113.5 inches, and ranging from 45t GCM to 168t GCM, the 48X is the ideal truck in various applications from tipper and dog to on-highway prime-mover, single trailer and B-double transport to road trains. Transmission options include either the Detroit DT-12 AMT or a range of Eaton manual transmissions. You can also choose from a range of sleepers, including a 36" or 48" low and mid-size roof, as well as the 60" mid roof, with or without roof fairings – all including premium noise insulation for a great night’s sleep! The 48X can be built with a range of integrated Western Star safety options, including but not limited to adaptive cruise control, active brake assist, lane departure warning, and blind spot warning.
